Rome's Villa Margherita

Margherita was the widow of King Umberto I who was assassinated in 1900 by an anarchist from New Jersey. She died in 1926.

In 1890 Prince Boncompagni Ludovisi built the present palace and then sold it to the royal family.  Today it is the U.S. Embassy.
